Summary

When a user launches your app, sound may already be playing on the device

Syntax

mergAVAudioSessionOtherAudioIsPlaying()

Description

This is especially salient if your app is a game. For example, the iPod may be playing music, or Safari may be streaming audio. In such a case, “Sound” in iOS Human Interface Guidelines advises you to assume that the user expects the other audio to continue as they play your game. In such a case, use the Ambient category, which supports mixing with other audio; and do not play your usual background soundtrack.
